More About Us

Hello, I'm Amy Ahola! Welcome to our little piece of cyberspace for Child Central Station. We are a licensed group home based child care program in Marquette, Michigan and provider of educational training and workshops for early childhood professionals, parents, and interested consumers.

We love to play and to have fun! As a homebased prorgram, my husband (Mr. Allan) and I (Ms. Amy) are partners in play. We have been operating our own business since August of 2005. Prior to that time I worked in a center for 4 years and have varied experiences working for two years in the public school system. I have also had a wide array of volunteer experiences working with children as an AmeriCorps member, camp counselor, and 4-H member/leader.

I earned my bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University in Graduate Prep Psychology, and have attained two Master's Level Certificates. Both Certificates are in Psychology: one in Training and Development, the other in Performance Improvement. I attained my M.S. in Training, Development and Human Performance Improvement in 2012.

I love to collaborate and share ideas with other people in the field.  Some of the organizations I volunteer with are: The Upper Peninsula Early Childhood Conference Committee, Partner's Institute, Coalition to Create Community Change, and the Houghton County Fair. I have previously been contracted by the Great Start Regional Child Care Resource Center to provide training opportunities to other early childhood professionals.

Mr. Allan graduated from Northern Michigan University with degrees in psychology, sociology, and history. He loves to learn! Prior to working here with me, he worked in the hotel and restaurant industry for many years. Mr. Allan is our personal chef! He is an amazing cook and helps keep our program running while Ms. Amy is out doing training sessions and volunteering to help with the Upper Peninsula Early Childhood Conference. Mr. Allan is also originally from Danmark (Denmark) and speaks a wide array of languages that he shares with the children.

Our son Dane is now 18!!! How in the world did that happen? He also works at our proram while he is finishing up high school. He plans to attend Northern Michigan University and will continue to help us with the business around his studies.
